This free seven-week workshop helps young writers (ages 13-18) to discover the magic, fun and some would say craziness of the immortal bard through playwriting, adaptation and performance.
Mondays and Wednesdays, 3:30-5:30pm
July 7, 2017 to August 18, 2017
Spaceworks @ Williamsburgh Library
240 Division Ave, Floor 2, Brooklyn
Over the course of the workshop, students work on breaking down Shakespeare’s King Lear, which they then adapt for performance by adding street slang and modern English. Students are introduced to the rudiments of theater process and develop skills in acting, memorization, adaptation, staging and performance while using their imagination to create cool, dynamic new characters based on Shakespeare’s King Lear.

This class is taught by Modesto “Flako” Jimenez of Oye Group.

This program is brought to you in partnership with Spaceworks and Brooklyn Public Library. Shake On The Block is sponsored in part by the Greater New York Arts Development Fund of the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, administered by Brooklyn Arts Council (BAC).
