Several years ago, NYC-based capoeira group Ilȇ de Palmares lost their practice space due to rising rents.

They needed a consistent space to hold classes in this Afro-Brazilian martial art form, which combines elements of dance, music, and acrobatics. They looked at many alternate venues, but nothing fit their budget. Aware of ever-increasing real estate costs in New York City, they were disappointed, but not surprised. The search continued.

“And then,” says group member Jean Tree, “I found out about Spaceworks. It’s been our home ever since.”

We know that you value the creative home base that Spaceworks provides. With your support, we’ll continue to build the stable, low-cost spaces that artists need to make their creative homes in neighborhoods across the City.
