Spaceworks builds and operates subsidized creative workspace across New York City.
We envision a New York City where access to space for expression is not a luxury, where the development of art spaces can serve and provide space for—rather than pricing out and uprooting—existing communities.
We co-create spaces that become resources for artists, cultural workers, creative entrepreneurs, and cultural organizations so that people can continue to make art in their neighborhoods.
Freedom of Expression for All
We believe in people's fundamental right to culture and creativity.
Protecting Cultural Legacy
We believe that legacy and future can co-exist.
Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice
We are making an effort to remove barriers to accessing cultural space. We are focused on addressing systemic racism and the impact of displacement caused by new real estate development. As part of this process, we have worked with BDAC/Ebony Noelle Golden, PURPOSE Productions, Race Forward’s Racial Equity in the Arts Innovation Lab and the The People's Institute for Survival and Beyond.
Communal Care & Transparency
We believe in engaging in open dialogue and communication as practices of co-creation.
