We're honored to welcome Tanisha Christie, Artist-in-Residence, and Ariel Phillips, Director of Development, to two brand new positions on our team.

Tanisha Christie (she/her), Artist-in-Residence

"Born in New York City and the daughter of Afro-Panamanians, I look forward to being part of the Spaceworks team.

After years of working at the nexus of arts, healing and social justice, as an Artist in Residence, I’m excited to get to know artists, cultural workers and community members throughout the City, assist in elevating creative conversations, and co-create projects and programs that the community desires.

I believe in the liberation of people through their stories and hope through participatory practices we can create more opportunities."

Ariel Phillips (she/her), Director of Development

"I am thrilled to be joining Spaceworks because I'm passionate about supporting artists and communities in New York City, where I've lived for 12 years.

Most recently, I was Director of Development at Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, working with public and private donors to provide artists with studio residencies, grants, and professional development and to present free public programming. Before getting a M.A. in Art History from NYU's Institute of Fine Arts, I also worked at Alexander and Bonin gallery.

At Spaceworks, I'll be gathering resources to make our current work possible and allow us to grow to do more. I'm particularly excited to work with the team on strategies to make our spaces even more accessible to the City's creative community."
