My work begins with the idea that I have lost something deeply essential that I must find. In this way, my work assumes the role of a search. The search proceeds as a spontaneous response to the surface and materials at hand-the paper and ink, linen and paint-and a willful sampling and synthesis of disparate strands of visual language (symbols, mark-making, words, color, design). The progress of the work allows for access to a psychic lowland from which I can conjure memory, image, and narrative. The work thus emerges (and the search ends) as a visual reclamation derived from fragments of myself and my world.
