Discipline: Dancer & Choregrapher

Based In: Manhattan

Website: Leah Smit

Leah Smit is a performer, choreographer, teacher, and visual artist. She creates a body of work in both the visual and performing arts in an attempt to interlace the multidisciplinary possibilities of using dance, sculpture, installation and photography as an outlet for expressing the human condition.

Working from the artist’s background in classical ballet, use of improvisation as a tool for creation, and interest in the relationship of the performing and visual arts,  the dancer’s are posed the question of how they can transform their bodies into a medium that is vulnerable and malleable, but demanding and structured. With this mastering of craft and empathy from the artist and performers, the audience is allowed opportunity for complete immersion as they experience the visual journeys of Leah Smit’s work.
